Commissioner Jonathan Bland

Affordable housing and equity, Long-term strategic planning for Spindale
Commissioner Bland was appointed to the Spindale Board of Commissioners in 2025. As Commissioner, he is focused on representing the voices of residents and municipal employees, promoting affordable housing and equity, supporting sustainable economic development while maintaining Spindale’s small-town character, and helping to shape the Town’s long-term vision.
Commissioner Bland is a graduate of R-S Central High School and holds an A.A. from Isothermal Community College. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Appalachian State University, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University.
Professionally, he serves as a Business Administration and Economics Instructor at Isothermal Community College, where he teaches, advises students, and contributes to program and curriculum development. In 2015, he was recognized as a Golden Apple Award winner for his dedication to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. The Golden Apple is awarded to employees who, "dedicate their time and talents to create a college environment where learning can flourish."
Commissioner Bland is an active member of the Rutherford Housing Partnership Board and a member of Southern Baptist Church in Ruth, North Carolina. He also volunteers as an assistant volleyball coach at R-S Central High School.
